So here I am in Nice trying to improve my French – it’s not working; it’s still awful – and I’ve come across a couple of nice French idioms.

When it’s raining heavily, the French say “Il est trempe comme une soupe!” (literally, it dips like soup). Incidentally, the Swedes say it’s raining cats (no dogs).

Also, for our Gallic cousins, to be full of energy is to have “en peche” (peach – like ‘everything’s peachy’ perhaps).
