Last night I watched animated documentary film Waltz with Bashir, a personal account of the 1982 Israel-Lebanon conflict and the Sabra and Shatila massacre. Powerful stuff.

It reminded me of an item I heard on the radio the other day about modern Hebrew. The language was only revived about a hundred years ago and has had to find new ways of describing the world. Now, the Academy of the Hebrew Language in Jerusalem sets standards for the language and adds new vocabulary, complemented by a Hebrew hotline where people can ask questions and suggest new words.

What a novel way to build a language.
