In recent years, the phrase “to perfection” seems to have become completely overused. I blame Masterchef, where the judges were looking for dishes that were cooked “to perfection”. In sports commentary, passes and punches are timed to perfection.

Typing it into Google, I discover it’s everywhere! There are businesses called Milk to Perfection, Renovate to Perfection, Pampered to Perfection and Ironed to Perfection. Thankfully, Jane Fonda has today called for an end to the ‘cult of perfection’.

Right on, Jane. Enough of this unimaginative cliché!
